Wildcat! Assembly
When: Friday, June 12 at 8pm
Where: JACK at 505 1/2 Waverly Avenue
What: Wildcat!, an interdisciplinary performance collective formed in 2013 by choreographer/performers Jeremy Toussaint-Baptiste, Eleni Zaharopoulos and André M. Zachery, will hold an “assembly” with two programs featured: I DO MIND DYING: danse précarité and 3 Meaningful Meditations. These two evening-length performances address social justice issues of racism, gender inequality, and economic oppression through the lens of three artists from unique artistic mediums: dance, physical performance, and sound.

What: Our popular NYC Parks Department “Shape Up! program returns with a new local volunteer instructor and an emphasis on stretching (Essentrics). Class begins on May 2nd  at 10 AM and ends at 11 AM. No registration is needed.

Housing Resource Fair

CaribBEING’s Heritage Film Series

Where: Brooklyn Museum at 200 Eastern Parkway
What: We pay tribute to the diverse cultures and contributions of Americans of Caribbean heritage with recent feature films and shorts by Caribbean filmmakers. Each is followed by a talkback with the filmmaker. (1) Missing Melodie (Monique Cambell, 2008, 7 min.). A young woman emigrates from Jamaica in hopes of reuniting with her mother. (2) The Price of Memory (Karen Marks Mafundikwa, 2014, 83 min.) explores the legacy of slavery in Jamaica by tracing the movement for slavery reparations catalyzed by Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Jamaica in 2002.

What: CATCH, curated with delicate irreverence by Andrew Dinwiddie, Jeff Larson and Caleb Hammons, brings everyone’s favorite Obie award-winning, hydra-headed, multi-disciplinary, rough-and-ready show to BRIC for the first time. CATCH 68 will feature: Eve Beglarian, Monstah Black, Luke George, I Am A Boy’s Choir, Lana Del Rey’s One and Only Raja Feather Kelly, Jumatatu Poe, Tatyana Tenenbaum, Kristin Worrall!

Fiasco Theater’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”

What: Crackling and quick-moving, The Two Gentlemen of Verona may well have been Shakespeare’s first play. A seemingly simple tale of shifting devotions among mismatched lovers, it helped launch the enduring genre of rom-com. Yet its delightful madcap surface conceals undercurrents, as its putative hero proves a cad and a faithless friend. A beguiling, nuanced production from the theater that brought us Cymbeline, and Into the Woods to the Roundabout Theatre.

Bert Brecht’s “Saint Joan of the Stockyards”
When: Through June 13 (Wednesdays-Saturdays at 7:30pm; Saturday the 6th & 13th at 3pm)
Where: Irondale Center at 85 South Oxford Street
What: Acclaimed German director, Peter Kleinert directs the Irondale ensemble in a production of Bert Brecht’s master-work Saint Joan of the Stockyards. A darkly comic tale of romance between a meatpacking tycoon and a Salvation Army worker set amidst the milieu of unemployed workers, high-rolling millionaires, and corporate greed.
