Simplicity and authenticity give these recipes a unique flavor, while Taylor’s charisma shines through in her prose, and she’s not afraid to tweak some of her recipes, from Pimento Cheese without mayonnaise to Pumpkin and Grits. What: Acclaimed author Rupert Thomson’s new novel “Katherine Carlyle” tells the story of a young woman who abandons the life she once knew and travels to the northernmost reaches of the globe in a self-imposed search for autonomy and meaning. This seductive portrayal of her mysterious quest throws new light on the myth of origins, and complicates notions of destiny and fate. The book has been highly praised by authors including Jonathan Lethem, Richard Flanagan, Philip Pullman, James Salter, and Rebecca Mead, who calls it “a stealthy, intelligent, surreptitiously affective novel. With a narrative that moves from the sophisticated milieux of Rome and Berlin to the startling lower reaches of the Arctic Circle, delivered in prose that is spare, cinematic and masterfully controlled, Katherine Carlyle is at once seductively contemporary and suggestively fable-like: Frozen for grown-ups.” Mead joins Thompson for a conversation about his book at Greenlight.
