Kevin Barry presents “Beatlebone”
When: Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30pm
Where: Greenlight Bookstore at 686 Fulton Street
What: Beatlebone is a quixotic quest novel that sends one of the 20th century’s biggest icons on a wild and metaphysical journey in search of himself and the answers to life’s most pressing questions. At the core of the story is the fact that in the late sixties, John Lennon bought himself an island on the wildly beautiful west coast of Ireland. He had plans to develop the space into a Utopian New Age community; nothing came of the project, except Barry’s wildly imaginative novel, which puts Lennon into the hands of a shape-shifting and mischievous figure straight out of Irish folklore. A journey into the murky psyche of a genius, a hallucinatory dark comedy told in rich, musical language, this is a novel only Kevin Barry could write. Brooklyn’s own Electric Literature hosts this evening’s with Kevin, where EL editor Dwyer Murphy talks with him about the book.
