Book Sale Donation Collection
When: Through Friday, April 8
Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: The Friends of Clinton Hill will be holding their next Book Sale on Saturday, April 16th in conjunction with the ASPCA Adoption Van. Donations of books and CD’s in good condition will be accepted during library hours ONLY from Tuesday, January 12th through Friday, April 8th.

Story Time with First RIF
When:  Tuesday, February 16 at 11am
Where: Walt Whitman Library at 93 Saint Edwards Street
What: Hear stories, sing songs and play with other children.  Ages 0-5.

Toddler Time with RIF
When:  Tuesday, February 16 at 11am
Where: Bedford Library at 496 Franklin Avenue
What: The more you read, sing and talk with toddlers, the more they learn! Have fun hearing great picture books read aloud and playing with other children during this program dedicated to active toddlers. (18 – 36 months)

Kids Week Brooklyn: Revolutionary History and Colonial Games
When: Tuesday, February 16 from 1-2:30pm
Where: Fort Greene Park Visitors Center
What: The kids are out of school, now get them out of the house. Head to the park and join the Urban Park Rangers’ free “Kids Week” programs.Today step back in time and play some colonial games. The history of Fort Greene Park provides the perfect backdrop as we experience what Colonial-era kids played during their free time. All are welcome, but programs are geared for ages 12 and under.

Zumba Class

What: Classes are on Tuesday evenings starting on January 5th and running through February 23rd. Have fun and meet new people while fulfilling your New Year fitness resolutions. Our free Zumba classes are taught by certified Zumba instructor Arturo Perez.

Stoop Series: We Be Darker Than Blue…

What: Come and experience an evening of poetry and spoken word from an intergenerational sisterhood of poets who some of the most important writers of the Black Arts movement! Sonia Sanchez, Mahogany L. Browne, Jess X Chen, and unveiling of a new mural in the cafe area of BRIC House by jetsonorama and Jess X Chen. After the performance there will be a Q&A where all four artists and poets to discuss their art and activism and an open mic for those who want to share their own expressions of sisterhood.

Fiction Book Group discusses “Zeroville”

AARP Free Tax Help

What: All AARP free tax preparation sites for low and middle income taxpayers operate on a first come, first served basis. To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Teen Chefs Cooking Class

What: We’ll present a selection of crowdfunded films from Brooklyn-based filmmakers such as Kweighbaye Kotee, creator of the Bushwick Diaries and discuss crowdfunding challenges; tips plus the impact that web based platforms have had on film with this month’s partner— Kickstarter.

What: In his new novel The Illegal, Hill gives a voice to a refugee – like so many in today’s headlines – compelled to leave his birth land, and caught in his new home between his desire to excel and his need to hide. What: Nine-member Balkan funk band Slavic Soul Party! delivers “some of the most danceable Balkan-flavored pop this side of the Adriatic” (Global Rhythm). A fiery mix of Balkan brass, accordion, virtuosic jazz, and pulsing grooves, SlavicSoul Party! is influenced by its members’ Eastern European, Mexican, and Asian roots, as well as American jazz and soul. This concert will also feature new works inspired by the song “Somewhere” from West Side Story and written by young people in the Brooklyn community in collaboration with Slavic Soul Party! as part of The Somewhere Project, a citywide creative learning project that honors Carnegie Hall’s 125th anniversary.
