Yoga at Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm
When: Monday, August 3 from 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Grange Farm, entrance at 63 Flushing Avenue at Brooklyn Navy Yard
What: Open to practitioners of all levels. Class will begin with a brief centering, a collection of ourselves in breath and space, and will gently evolve into a flow of movement and meditation. In community, we’ll move, breathe and connect to our inner and outer landscapes. Classes held at dusk to enjoy the herb-scented breeze as the sun sets behind the Manhattan skyline. **PLEASE NOTE: BYO Yoga mat, water bottle, and please make sure you have a photo ID for entering the yard.**

Community Dance Class
When: Monday, August 3 from 6:30-8pm
Where: BRIC House at 647 Fulton Street
What: All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us for a series of Community Dance Classes taught by Ronald K. Brown and members of his company, Evidence, A Dance Company, which blends traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word providing a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs. Classes are rooted in the Company’s fusion aesthetic and are the perfect alternative to another boring day at the gym. Come discover the joy of dance! No previous experience necessary.
Kate Weare Company: UNSTRUCK
When: Monday, August 3 at 7pm
Where: BRIC House at 647 Fulton Street
What: Join us for an evening of contemporary dance, as Kate Weare Company performs Unstruck, 2015 at BRIC House, followed by a conversation between Kate Weare and Clifford Ross, moderated by Rachel Chanoff, BRIC’s Senior Artistic Advisor. A new trio, Unstruck explores in movement and sound a process of live formation. Like stones in a river, or sound through a tunnel, the dancers forcibly shape themselves and are shaped by each other through unceasing contact and energetic exchange.

Free Yoga for Adults

What: Practice yoga with local yoga instructor, Jenine Osbon. All levels welcome. Limit of 10-12 per class.
BRIC FLIX: Interactive Media for Social Good
When: Tuesday, August 4 from 7-9pm
Where: BRIC House at 647 Fulton Street
What: The evening will feature a discussion and exhibition of interactive media works featuring Luisa Dantas, creator of the web documentary Land of Opportunity, Shannon Carroll, creator of the audio walking tourSouthside Stories, and Ram Devineni, creator of the augmented reality comic book Priya’s Shakti . The topics are diverse: a recent history of Williamsburg Brooklyn, housing displacement in the wake of natural disaster, and creating supportive community for victims of sexual assault. But, these works all intrigue an audience with significant place-based and social issues, providing further illumination on the topic, and inciting an audience to action.
The discussion with the interactive creators about the creative and technical challenges, and opportunities of their work will be book ended by a chance for attendees to interact with the projects themselves.

Brooklyn Grange Farm Tour

Where: Brooklyn Grange — Meet at BLDG 92 at 63 Flushing Avenue
What: Come check out the world’s largest rooftop farm in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard! We’ll tell you about our daily operations and farming methods, the basics of our business model, and the environmental benefits of urban ag and rooftop farming, then give you some time to explore.

Paul Downs presents “Boss Life: Surviving My Own Small Business”

What: With his new book Boss Life, Downs offers a portrait of a real business, with a real boss, a real set of employees, and the real challenges they face. With honesty and conviction, Downs tells the true story behind building and sustaining a successful company in an ever-evolving economy, often airing his own failures and shortcomings to unveil the difficulties that arise from being a boss and a business person. Downs talks about the ins and outs of small business with Forbes senior editor Loren Feldman, who created the “You’re the Boss” blog in his former position as small-business editor of The New York Times, at this event co-hosted by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

“TOBIN EASON – Passion in Motion” Exhibit
When: Through August 13
Where: Gallery Three at South Oxford Space, at 138 South Oxford Street, 3rd Floor
What: The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) is pleased to present an exhibit of nine works on canvas by Tobin Eason. Eason’s paintings are influenced by the dance performing arts scene in NYC. They depict the wide and varied emotions performing artists must portray when performing for an audience. Each work is a reflection of not only the dancer’s beauty aesthetically, but even more importantly, the required expression and passion to achieve artistic excellence. Many of the dancers featured in each painting are established professionals in premier ballet companies in the city, such as American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet.
