What: An informal get together to skill swap and show and tell about your creative projects in an inspiring environment with other creative like-minded people.
Yoga at Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm
When: Monday, August 10 from 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Grange Farm, entrance at 63 Flushing Avenue at Brooklyn Navy Yard
What: Open to practitioners of all levels. Class will begin with a brief centering, a collection of ourselves in breath and space, and will gently evolve into a flow of movement and meditation. In community, we’ll move, breathe and connect to our inner and outer landscapes. Classes held at dusk to enjoy the herb-scented breeze as the sun sets behind the Manhattan skyline. **PLEASE NOTE: BYO Yoga mat, water bottle, and please make sure you have a photo ID for entering the yard.**

Free Yoga for Adults

Oysters 101
When: Tuesday, August 11 at 6:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Grange Farm at Flushing and Clinton Avenues
What: Billion Oyster Project (BOP) is bringing oysters back to the NYC waterways and are going to take us through the ins and outs of how and why they’re making it happen. We’ll visit their Brooklyn Navy Yard oyster garden to learn about how their programs are repopulating our waterways with our favorite bi-valves. Participants will experience what it is to be a student during a BOP oyster monitoring event, learning about the restoration process and how BOP is growing oysters. You’ll get a chance to measure live oysters, test water quality parameters and identify some of the hundreds of other organisms growing on and in the oyster cages.

Author Talk: Tanwi Nandini Islam and Mira Jacob

What: Tanwi Nandini Islam is a writer, multimedia artist, and founder of Hi Wildflower Botanica, a handcrafted natural perfume and skincare line based in Brooklyn. Her magnetic debut novel Bright Lines tells the powerful story of one family and three young women coming of age in Brooklyn and Bangladesh, and is inspired in part by Tanwi’s research on the Bangladesh Liberation War and her trips to Bangladesh to visit the village where her parents grew up. Islam discusses her novel with Mira Jacob, author of the critically acclaimed novel The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing.

Brooklyn Grange Farm Tour

Where: Brooklyn Grange — Meet at BLDG 92 at 63 Flushing Avenue
What: Come check out the world’s largest rooftop farm in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard! We’ll tell you about our daily operations and farming methods, the basics of our business model, and the environmental benefits of urban ag and rooftop farming, then give you some time to explore.

Knitting and Crocheting Club

Sustainable Lobster Workshop

What: Join us for an evening hosted by Luke’s Lobster co-founder Ben Conniff all about Maine lobster, an exemplary model of the modern sustainable fishery. We’ll cover sustainable practices’ effect on the environment and local community, lobster nutrition, handling and cooking methods inspired by the new Luke’s cookbook Real Maine Food, and give you a peek into a day in a lobsterman’s life. Then you’ll get crackin’ at tackling your own lobster while sipping a crisp white overlooking the Manhattan skyline! You’ll leave confident in your abilities to cook lobster, a lean sustainable protein you can feel great about enjoying, all on your own!

Author Talk: Austin and Lev Grossman

What: Writers and brothers Austin Grossman (Soon I Will Be Invincible, You) and Lev Grossman (The Magicians Trilogy) return to Greenlight to discuss their most recent works, which infuse everyday life with the thrill of the uncanny. Summer Art Social and Closing Party

What: Celebrate the summer with BRIC’s contemporary art program and catch our Clifford Ross exhibition in it’s final days, during this second annual event. Join us for an evening of artistic and musical performances, celebrating the work of multiple artists and allowing visitors to explore and get a more intensive and interactive look at BRIC’s programming. There will be open studios for BRIC’s Visual Artist Residency program, performance art, exhibitions on view, a fun photo booth on hand, and music by the band LEGS and Superhuman Happiness. “TOBIN EASON – Passion in Motion” Exhibit
When: Through August 13
Where: Gallery Three at South Oxford Space, at 138 South Oxford Street, 3rd Floor
What: The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) is pleased to present an exhibit of nine works on canvas by Tobin Eason. Eason’s paintings are influenced by the dance performing arts scene in NYC. They depict the wide and varied emotions performing artists must portray when performing for an audience. Each work is a reflection of not only the dancer’s beauty aesthetically, but even more importantly, the required expression and passion to achieve artistic excellence. Many of the dancers featured in each painting are established professionals in premier ballet companies in the city, such as American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet.

Show and Tell Photos Of Your Clinton Hill Neighborhood

Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: Bring a picture and your written short caption/short story that tells the story of your Clinton Hill neighborhood. It can be a picture of a person or persons, a place, a thing, a picturesque memory. All photographic short stories/captions & pictures will be displayed in the Clinton Hill Library for you and your neighbors to see for the month of September 2015.
