Book Sale Donation Collection
When: Through Friday, April 8
Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: The Friends of Clinton Hill will be holding their next Book Sale on Saturday, April 16th in conjunction with the ASPCA Adoption Van. Donations of books and CD’s in good condition will be accepted during library hours ONLY from Tuesday, January 12th through Friday, April 8th.

Ingersoll Houses Tenants Meeting

What: Get the latest details about what’s going on in your housing development and how you can participate!

CEC 13 Forum About NYS Testing
When: Monday, March 28 from 6:30-8pm
Where: PS 133 at 610 Baltic Street
What: Discuss testing with administrators and fellow parents. What changes are coming to NYS tests this year? What are the tests used for? What are the criticisms and why are some parents opting their kids out of testing? Get answers and info for these questions and more.

Babies and Books

What: Storytime is for babies, too! Come sing, play, hear stories, and meet with other parents and caregivers.

Story Play with First RIF

What: Hear stories, sing songs and play with other children.  Ages 0-5.

Toddler Time with RIF

Where: Bedford Library at 496 Franklin Avenue
What: The more you read, sing and talk with toddlers, the more they learn! Have fun hearing great picture books read aloud and playing with other children during this program dedicated to active toddlers. (18 – 36 months).

Amore Magic Show

What: Amore delights audiences with his magic show and full of side-splitting comedy.

Free Movie: “Room”
When: Tuesday, March 29 at 1:45pm
Where: Clinton Hill LIbrary at 380 Washington Avenue
What: A drama which tells the extraordinary story of Jack, a spirited five-year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted Ma. Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. However, they are trapped in a windowless, 11-by-11-foot space, which Ma has euphemistically named ”Room.” As Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.

Teen Tech Time

What: Come race your wheels off, battle your heart out, and dance your socks off with Wii games at the library! We have sports games, dancing games, racing games, and more! No registration or experience necessary.

CEC 13 Mini Labs
When: Tuesday, March 29 from 5:30-8:30pm
Where: PS 287 at 50 Navy Street
What: How might Community School District 13 ensure that all middle school students have equal educational opportunities? Join other parents, educators, and community members to explore this question during an interactive, professionally-facilitated, structured learning and brainstorming session. It’s your opportunity to get in on the ground floor as District 13 develops a proposal for a new middle school admissions process. Free childcare available for early registrants. Refreshments will be provided.

Zumba Class

Spectrum / Panel Discussion

AARP Free Tax Help

What: All AARP free tax preparation sites for low and middle income taxpayers operate on a first come, first served basis. To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Caribbean Womens Storytelling Film Screening: “Auntie”

What: Join us for an inspiring Women’s History Month celebration of Caribbean women storytellers, featuring works by Michelle Stephenson, Mary Wells, and Lisa Harewood. Learn about social good initiatives in the Caribbean. “Auntie” is a short film by Lisa Harewood, storyteller behind the Barrel Stories Project, an oral history project that will document the experiences of persons affected by parental separation during migration. Meet Lisa and join the conversation.

What: Come help us finalize the plans for our Saturday, April 16th Book Sale and ASPCA Pet Adoption event! Seniors, adults, and teens are all welcome. Proceeds from all Friends fund-raising events pay for much-needed programs at the Clinton Hill branch.

Movement Class For Older Adults

Where: Ingersoll Community Center at 177 Myrtle Avenue
What: Led by Mark Morris Dance Center faculty. Explore movement and music in a creative and fun way. Designed to use gentle movement to explore and increase range of motion for older adults.

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum: “Poof! Life in a Vacuum”
When: Thursday, March 31 from 4-5pm
Where: Clinton Hill LIbrary at 380 Washington Avenue
What: Learn just how important the Earth’s atmosphere is and why astronauts need to wear those big, heavy space suits. Using a bell jar and vacuum pump, Intrepid Educators will mimic the vacuum of space. Participants will first predict, then discover what happens to various objects when they are exposed to a vacuum and then make the extension to how the human body would react to the vacuum of space. (Don’t worry, nothing gross!)

Public Safety Workshop
When: Thursday, March 31 at 7pm
Where: Teen Challenge Center at 444 Clinton Avenue
What: Think safety first! Refuse to be a victim! Tips and resources from elected officials and police from the 88th Precinct. Also discussed will be the Zika Virus and how to get unclaimed funds owed to you by New York State.

Poetry by Adults for National Poetry Month
When: Friday, April 1 from 10am-4pm

What: If you write poetry – SUBMIT A POEM YOU WROTE, a haiku, limerick, cinquain, sonnet, riddle, shape poem, whatever you choose…if your poem is chosen, by the Librarian Staff, YOUR POEM WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE LIBRARY’S LOBBY AREA FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL. If you like, you may use a pen name on your submission.  Your poem may not be longer than 1 page.  Please submit your poem into the Poetry Box sitting on the information desk. If you want to know if whether your poem was chosen and want to be contacted, please include your name and contact information on the back of your submission. — “A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a love sickness.” — by Robert Frost

BAMcafé Live: Grey Season
When:

Where: Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: In collaboration with Berklee College of Music. The five-piece Boston-based outfit crafts moody, bluegrass-tinged folk pop. Heartfelt ballads build toward rousing, anthemic choruses, backed by banjos and bouzoukis and bluesy guitar solos. Grey Season takes the stage at BAMcafé fresh from recent performances at South By Southwest, Bonnaroo, and the Boston Calling Music Festival.
