Job Fair presented by Councilman Vincent Gentile
When: Monday, June 15, 3pm – 8pm
Where: William McKinley Junior High School, 7301 Fort Hamilton Parkway
What: Open to all job-seekers throughout the city, this job jair will feature recruiters from local organizations, national businesses, the armed forces and city government agencies. This includes Prudential, Walgreens, the FDNY and Total Transportation Corp.

Sheepshead Bay Courts Resiliency Planning Meeting
When: Monday, June 15, 7pm
Where: Waterford on the Bay, 2900 Bragg Street, near Emmons Avenue
What: New York City’s Department of Housing Recovery and Councilman Chaim Deutsch are co-hosting a meeting to discuss future planning for the Sheepshead Bay Courts following Superstorm Sandy. Officials and city planners will discuss proposals for a community wide re-configuration of the bungalow courts, potentially to elevate entire blocks using Build it Back funds.

Talking Needles
When: Tuesday, June 17 at 1pm
Where: New Utrecht Library, 1743 86th Street
What:  Seniors gather to do projects such as knitting, crocheting or crafting or just to coffee klatch. Provided by Brooklyn Public Library’s Services for Older Adults department.

Summer Bike Etchings
When: Wednesday, June 17 at 6pm
Where: Outside P.S. 193, Bedford Avenue and Avenue L
What: Councilman Chaim Deutsch is partnering with the NYPD’s 70th Precinct and the Flatbush Shomrim to provide free bike etching. Etching is a quick and simple way to assist the police in identifying your bicycle if it is lost or stolen. Each bike is given a serial number that is registered with the police.

“The Bay Ridge Parkway” History Lecture
When: Wednesday, June 17 at 7:30pm
Where: Shore Hill Community Room, 9000 Shore Road (Entrance on 91st Street between Colonial Road and Shore Road)
What: “The Bay Ridge Parkway” was an ambitious idea city planners had for an uninterrupted series of greenspaces that would start at Fort Hamilton Parkway, travel west, curve around Owl’s Head (then still a private estate), and continue down the shore to the armybase. It was meant to rival Eastern and Ocean Parkways—but that’s not quite how it turned out. Find out the history with the Bay Ridge Historical Society.

What: Learn about local and citywide job opportunities with Workforce1, New York City’s employment program and workforce training agency. You can also find out if you qualify for cost-free training in a variety of industries, including construction.

Madison-Marine-Homecrest Civic Association

Where: Carmine Carro Community Center in Marine Parkway, Fillmore Avenue at Marine Parkway
What: This civic association, covering Marine Mark, Madison and Homecrest, will receive reports from elected officials, discuss neighborhood issues, and hear a performance by the award-winning Marine Park Junior High School Jazz band. They will also announce the annual Mary Powell Award recipients. Refreshments will be served.
