Even though it’s mighty cold, there are still a ton of great things to do throughout Prospect Park — whether you’d like to learn about birds on a walk, get a tour of the night sky, go for some loops around the ice skating rink, or play a few rounds of tennis, there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy.

Here’s a list of the upcoming events in the park through the end of the month:

Wednesday, February 4

Greenmarket at Bartel-Pritchard Square
Every Wednesday, 8am-3pm
Nestled inside Prospect Park’s tree-shaded southwest corner, this weekday market — now open year-round — is where South Slope and Windsor Terrace residents stock up on locally grown staples including vegetables, fruits, baked goods, plants and flowers, fresh-caught fish, and organic baked goods.

Shape-Up NYC: Glutes in Gear: Cardio & Toning
Repeats Wednesday, 6-7pm
Focus on your lower half in this free, belly-busting, booty shaping, two-part class. The first part builds endurance with heart-pumping cardio. Part two uses mat work to build your core and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. Bring your own workout mat.

Shape Up NYC: Dance Fitness
Repeats Thursdays, 11am-12pm
This free, total body workout uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body.

Friday, February 6

Tennis Family Fun Night
7-9pm
Join the Prospect Park Tennis Center for an evening of family-friendly tennis. Adults will enjoy a social round robin and children may play separately or with family members, depending on their level of play. Families should call the Tennis Center to register in advance at 718-436-2500.

Saturday, February 7

Coffee Bark
7-9am
Bring your pups to the Long Meadow for treats and great company. FIDO in Prospect Park offers free goodies for dogs and their owners as well as provides information pertaining to off-leash activities and issues.

Every Saturday, 7am-3pm
Do all your food shopping, sample local wine, and explore Brooklyn’s favorite park. EBT/Food Stamps and WIC and Senior FMNP coupons accepted year-round.

Introduction to Birdwatching

Join the Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Bird Club at the Audubon Center to learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home.

Sunday, February 8

Valentine’s Day 5k Run
10am-12pm
Sign-up as an individual, or with your special someone to compete in the fastest couples competition. Presented by Brooklyn Road Runners.

Prospect Park Zoo
Nature Playtime! Zoo
Every Sunday through April, 10:30am-12:30pm
Join the Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo, and Tinkergarten to explore the Park’s natural areas through creative play the entire family will enjoy. Activities include making nature-inspired art, insect observation, playing with snow, and more. Free with admission to the Prospect Park Zoo.

Tuesday, February 10

Sports as Art
4:30-6pm
The LeFrak Center at Lakeside is launching a new Sports as Art afterschool program for kids, where participants learn the art of game design. Working together in teams, participants create innovative games on ice in six weekly sessions.

Toddler Tuesdays
Repeats Tuesdays, 9:30am-12pm
Toddlers (2-5 years old) and their caregivers will enjoy an action-packed morning of instructor-led play and music-based activities, healthy snacks, beverages, and open skate time with skate rentals, helmets, and pad packs for toddlers and bag check for any storage needed. Single Tickets are $15 per child per session. Purchase of 4 Toddler Tuesday tickets in advance for $12 each. No charge for accompanying adult; adult skate rentals available at for $6.

Cherry Tree 10 Miler
9am-12pm
Join the Prospect Park Track Club for the annual Cherry Tree 10 Miler and 3 Person Relay.

Monday, February 16

Presidents Week Events
Monday-Friday, 12-4pm
Join the Prospect Park Alliance during Presidents Week for family-friendly activities at the Prospect Park Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House.

Alliance Nature Programs
Prospect Park Audubon Center, Free
Winter in the Wild, 12-3pm: Bundle up and find out what your favorite Park animals are up to this winter.
Great Backyard Bird Count, 3-4pm: Help Alliance naturalists track North American bird populations; see if late winter movements of songbirds and waterfowl are as far north as they were last year; and if winter weather influenced the region’s bird populations.

Coming in from the Cold, 1-4pm
Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation
Come to Lefferts Historic House for some great indoor fun. Learn how to play Nine-Man Morris and make your very own playing board to take home.

Historic House Tours, 1-3:30pm
Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation
View significant artifacts from 19th century family life and walk into a fully furnished 1820s bedroom. Tours every half hour.

Tennis Center Presidents Week Tennis Program
Monday-Friday, 1-4pm
The Prospect Park Tennis Center offers intensive group instruction for adults and children of all levels of experience. Players must register in advance.

Saturday, February 21

NYRR Al Gordon 4 Mile Run
8-10am
Celebrate health and longevity at this four-mile race presented by New York Road Runners.

Sunday, February 22

The Night Sky
7-8:30pm
The Urban Park Rangers will be your guides to the solar system, discussing the science, history and folklore of the universe. Night Sky programs highlight the history and folklore of the solar system, using the naked eye to locate stars and planets. Meet at the Audubon Center promptly at 7pm.

Friday, February 27

Members Chill Out
4-8pm
The Prospect Park Alliance invites members at the Supporter level and higher to its Members Chill Out, a night of ice skating and cold weather treats at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside. Skating, hot chocolate, and activities are complimentary and skate rental is half off. Registration is required and is being accepted first-come, first-serve until February 20.
