Despite what the forecast might have you believe, it is actually March, which means we will, at some point, be drawn out of hibernation and into the great outdoors. So be on the lookout for things to do throughout Prospect Park — whether you’d like to learn about birds with the family, go for some loops around the ice skating rink before it goes back to roller skating, or hop on the carousel, there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy.

Here’s a list of the upcoming events in the park through the end of the month:

Wednesday, March 4

Greenmarket at Bartel-Pritchard Square
Every Wednesday, 8am-3pm
Nestled inside Prospect Park’s tree-shaded southwest corner, this weekday market — now open year-round — is where South Slope and Windsor Terrace residents stock up on locally grown staples including vegetables, fruits, baked goods, plants and flowers, fresh-caught fish, and organic baked goods.

Shape-Up NYC: Glutes in Gear: Cardio & Toning
Repeats Wednesdays, 6-7pm
Focus on your lower half in this free, belly-busting, booty shaping, two-part class. The first part builds endurance with heart-pumping cardio. Part two uses mat work to build your core and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. Bring your own workout mat.

Friday, March 6

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Toning
Repeats Fridays, 12-1pm
An exercise class focusing on your core through a combination of strength, balance and toning exercises that raise the heart rate to burn calories and strengthen the cardio-respiratory system. Workout mat recommended.

Saturday, March 7

Greenmarket at Grand Army Plaza
Every Saturday, 7am-3pm
Do all your food shopping, sample local wine, and explore Brooklyn’s favorite park. EBT/Food Stamps and WIC and Senior FMNP coupons accepted year-round.

NYU 5K Walk/Run for Physical Therapy Research
9-11am
The 4th annual 5K benefits the Foundation for Physical Therapy, an independent non-profit organization. Race registration includes a free t-shirt, special offers from sponsors, and post-race food and beverages.

Introduction to Birdwatching
Repeats Saturdays, 12-1:30pm
Join the Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Bird Club at the Audubon Center to learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home.

Sunday, March 8

Cherry Tree 10 Miler
9am-12pm
Join the Prospect Park Track Club for the Annual Cherry Tree 10 Miler and 3 Person Relay.

Prospect Park Zoo
Nature Playtime! Zoo
Every Sunday through April, 10:30am-12:30pm
Join the Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo, and Tinkergarten to explore the Park’s natural areas through creative play the entire family will enjoy. Activities include making nature-inspired art, insect observation, playing with snow, and more. Free with admission to the Prospect Park Zoo.

Tuesday, March 10

Toddler Tuesdays
Repeats Tuesdays, 10:30am-1pm
Toddlers (2-5 years old) and their caregivers will enjoy an action-packed morning of instructor-led play and music-based activities, healthy snacks, beverages, and open skate time with skate rentals, helmets, and pad packs for toddlers and bag check for any storage needed. Single Tickets are $15 per child per session. Purchase of 4 Toddler Tuesday tickets in advance for $12 each. No charge for accompanying adult; adult skate rentals available at for $6.

Saturday, March 14

Prospect Park Duathlon & 5K, 10K
8-10am
With five options of running and biking distances to choose from, there’s plenty to challenge all levels of athletes.

Family Bird Watching
10-11am
Looking for a fun way to spend time with your family outdoors? Join the Prospect Park Alliance at the Audubon Center for its monthly family bird watching tours. After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home. Note that this tour leaves promptly at 10am.

Winter Broadway
Repeats Saturday, March 21, 1-4pm
Broadway comes to Lakeside for this ice skating event, taking place Saturdays through March 21! Enjoy ticket giveaways while skating to the soundtracks of Broadway hits like A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder and Honeymoon in Vegas. Free with rink admission.

Wednesday, March 25

Open Venues BK
5-8pm
The Prospect Park Picnic House is teaming up with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Brooklyn Based and Explore BK for Open Venues BK, an opportunity to tour Brooklyn venues for weddings and other special occasions. RSVPs requested.

Thursday, March 26

Carousel Opening Weekend
Daily, Thursday-Saturday, 12-5pm
Celebrate the start of spring with a first ride of the year on the Park’s beloved 1912 carousel. Join the Prospect Park Alliance at the $125 level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the carousel for a full year!

Sunday, March 29

Junior Volunteer Corps
1:30-3:30pm
Join the Prospect Park Alliance for a day of giving back. Families and elementary-aged youth groups are invited to join us to help prepare the Park for spring by raking leaves and other activities. Learn the value of service and meet other families and children. Refreshments will be provided. Register online.
