Things To Do In Ditmas Park This Weekend
Between the Church Ave. Street Fair, Coffee Mob’s soft opening (more on that here), the Prospect Park Fair, CAMBA and Sustainable Flatbush’s annual Plant Swap and Food Drive, the inaugural CostumeCon 5k, and more live music events and kimchi-making classes than you can shake a pickled guitar at, the next few days are certainly shaping up to be epic ones.
Thursday, April 18
- Kids can keep Prospect Park green at Nature’s Helpers, Audubon Center, 1-2pm Thursdays and Fridays.
- … and then learn about park wildlife at Animal Encounter, also at the Audubon Center Thursdays and Fridays, 2-2:30pm.
- Nature on the Go! is at the Audubon Center, too, Thursdays and Fridays, 3-4pm.
- Kath Bloom plays with the Ed Askew Band in the downstairs space at Sycamore, 8pm.
- Sign up to perform at Open Mic night from 8-8:30 pm, or just watch starting at 9pm at 773 Lounge.
Friday, April 19
- Shape Up NYC hosts a free introductory pilates class, Prospect Park Audubon Center, 12-1pm.
- Meet fellow parents at the New Parent Meet-Up, Lark, 1-2pm.
- The Cortelyou Library is offering a writing workshop for teens, 3pm.
- Attend “Roy & Lloyd’s Happy Hour” live jazz series, Lark, 5:45pm.
Saturday, April 20
- Check out the soft opening of Coffee Mob (1514 Newkirk Ave. on the corner of E 16th), 7am.

- Visit Sustainable Flatbush’s Earth Day Open House, 2103 Kenmore Terrace by E 21st St., 9:30am-1:30pm.
- Help the Woodland Corps keep Prospect Park clean and green by the Picnic House, 10am-2pm.
- Bird lovers can join the Urban Park Rangers for Birding: Spring Migrants, also at the Prospect Park Picnic House, 10am.
- Eat and play at the Prospect Park Fair, 11am-3pm.
- Then check out the Pop-Up Audubon, Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm.
- Enjoy free mimosas while you save on the Summer 2013 collection at Brooklyn Industries, 12-4pm.
- Join History in Your Hands: Spring Sprouts to care for Prospect Park’s Lefferts Historic House garden, Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4pm.
- Learn about lacto-fermentation and pickling foods with Greenmarket manager Tali Biale‘s Fermentation Basics: Making Sauerkraut and Kimchi, Brooklyn ARTery, 3:30-5:30pm.
- Watch rock group Richie and the Undercover play at 773 Lounge, 10pm.
Sunday, April 21
- Put on your wackiest duds and run the CostumeCon 5k for charity, Prospect Park, 8am.
- Attend the annual Sustainable Flatbush/CAMBA Plant Swap and Food Drive at the Flatbush Food Co-op, 12-3pm.
- Try food from The Fat Beagle, play on an indoor playground, get beauty treatments, and more at the Church Ave. Street Fair, 12-6pm.
- Celebrate Earth Day with a performance by Bash the Trash at Prospect Park’s Audubon Center, 1-4pm.
- Names You Can Trust just can’t stay away. They play their weekly party at Sycamore, 10pm.
