Lots to do in southern Brooklyn this week. Get in the holiday spirit with some karaoke with your neighbors. There’s also a big charity drive that promises lots of entertainment, a poetry jam, photography workshops, a community board meeting, smoke alarm giveaways, and more.

Friends Book Sale!
When: Daily, 1 – 6pm
Where: Sheepshead Bay Library, 2636 East 14th Street (Near Avenue Z)
What: Support your local library by purchasing a book. There is a large selection of books from all genres. Proceeds go to support the Sheepshead Bay Library.
How much: Prices are $1 – $3.

Smoke Alarm Giveaway
When: Monday, December 14, 4 – 7pm
Where: City Councilman Chaim Deutsch’s district office, 2401 Avenue U (Near East 24th Street)
What: City Councilman Chaim Deutsch is sponsoring a smoke detector giveaway as part of the city’s #GetAlarmedNYC initiative, the largest of it’s kind in the country.

Toys for Tots Drive
When: Monday, December 14, 6pm
Where: National Restaurant, 273 Brighton Beach Avenue (Near Brighton 2nd Street)
What: The Be Proud Foundation is throwing its 7th Annual Toys for Tots drive. Guests will be entertained by the children’s choir of The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene’s and dance ensemble from the Tovushi Kavkaz Jewish Youth Center.

Blood Pressure Screening
When: Tuesday, December 15, 12:30 – 1pm

What: Have an experienced nurse check your blood pressure.

Community Board 15 Meeting

Where: Kingsborough Community College, 2001 Oriental Boulevard, Faculty Dining Room U112
What: The community board will be examining building plans and licenses for several business and organizations in the neighborhood. Learn about important issues in the community and share your concerns.

First Aid and Fire Safety Training
When: Tuesday, December 15, 7 – 8:30pm
Where: Shorefront Y, 3300 Coney Island Avenue (Near Brightwater Court)
What: City Councilman Deutsch is holding a fire safety and first aid workshop. Training will be in Russian and English. There will also be smoke detectors being given away.

Intro to Digital Photography

What: This free class by BRIC will teach novice photographers how to create professional work using their digital cameras. Topics include composition theory, camera settings, resolution and exposure levels. Bring your own camera.
