Things For Kids To Do In Southern Brooklyn: Pumpkin Painting, Puppet Show & More

Bring out the whole family this week and enjoy some of these kid-friendly activities. There’s pumpkin painting, sewing lessons, several fun shows, and a festival at the The Hendrick I. Lott House. Enjoy!

Toddler Time
When: Wednesday, October 14, 11am
Where: Brighton Beach Library, 16 Brighton 1st Road
What: Bring those little ones in to hear some stories and play with toys.

Sewing Lessons For Children
When: Friday, October 16, 3:30pm
Where: Sheepshead Bay Library, 2636 East 14th Street
What: For the creative kid (aged 10+) who’s eager to make his own Halloween costume this year, this is the place to be.

The Brave Calf / El Becerrito Valiente
When: Friday, October 16, 4pm
Where: Coney Island Library 1901 Mermaid Avenue
What: Teatro IATI presents this story of a little calf who decides to leave his stable and explore the world, and the adventures that he has.

Pumpkin Painting Patch
When: Saturday, October 17, 11am-1pm
Where: Pinot’s Palette, 7518 13th Avenue, Dyker Heights
What: Bring the family (kids ages 4 and up) to this festive and crafty event to get you in the Halloween spirit. They’ll supply each painter with a large pumpkin, plus all the supplies and guidance to paint one of four designs on it — or, freestyle your own. They’ll also have smaller pumpkins available for purchase if you’d like to paint more, plus cookies and juice for the kids.

Halloween Harvest
When: Saturdays & Sundays through November 1, opens at 12pm
Where: Luna Park, 1000 Surf Avenue, Coney Island
What: Celebrate the seasons with storytelling, pumpkin picking, balloon art, crafts, s’mores, a doggie costume parade, karaoke, and more.

Turtle Puppetry Program
When: Saturday, October 17, 1pm
Where:  Kings Bay Library, 3650 Nostrand Avenue
What: Kids ages 4-8 will learn some social skills from Little Turtle — expect a puppet show, a read-aloud, and relaxing exercises and music.

Monster Mash-Ups Movie Series: The Addams Family
When: Saturday, October 17, 6:15pm
Where: Lawn behind the ballfields at Kaiser Park, Neptune Avenue, Coney Island
What: The fun family film about a creepy family that’s more like your than you realize starts screening at 6:30, but you should scope out a seat at least 15 minutes ahead — bring chairs or a blanket to sit on, and food is okay, but no alcohol or smoking. Also, there’s a costume contest before the movie — register to compete here!

Fall Festival At The Hendrick I. Lott House
Where: 1940 East 36th Street, Marine Park
When: Sunday, October 18, 12-4pm
What: As part of Open House New York, visitors will get to explore the newly updated grounds around this house from the 1700s, one of the oldest in Brooklyn. The house itself, unfortunately, is closed for renovations, but the family will still have a blast — you’ll see things like wood-turning demonstrations, hear music, and have a chance to meet Betsy, a simulated milking cow.

Babies & Books
When: Monday, October 19, 11am
Where: New Utrecht Library, 1743 86th Street, Bensonhurst
What: Parents and guardians will get involved in the fun in this interactive storytime for very young children, which features books, songs, rhymes — not to mention a chance to meet other families in your neighborhood.
