Things To Do In Ditmas Park This Weekend

There is a ton happening this weekend, including the last Church Avenue sidewalk sales event of the year, two huge yard sales – the Popcorn multi-family yard sale and the Prospect Park South biennial yard sale (which includes more than 40 participating houses both Saturday and Sunday), the Cortelyou Library book sale, readings by amazing authors at Lit at Lark, and lots more:

Thursday, October 16

• Sign up for open mic night at 773 Lounge starting at 8pm.


Kathleen Grace performs her Americana styles from the left coast at Bar Chord, 9pm.

Friday, October 17

Sing-along with Lloyd H. Miller at Lark Cafe, 10 & 11am.
• Check out all the deals during the last Church Avenue sidewalk sales event of the year (Friday, Saturday & Sunday), 10am-6pm.
• Come to Prospect Park’s Audubon Center for a free cardio toning class, 12pm.
• Meet fellow moms and dads at the New Parent Meet-Up, Lark, 1pm.
• Kids can attend Blooming Naturalists  at the Prospect Park’s Audubon Center, 1-2pm Thursdays and Fridays.
• … followed by Nature on the Go, also at the Audubon Center, 2-3pm Thursdays and Fridays.
• Kids ages 8 and up are invited to a creative writing group at the Cortelyou Library, 2:45-3:45pm.
• Learn about local wildlife at Animal Encounter, also at the Audubon Center, 3-4pm Thursdays and Fridays.
Happy hour with babies and ice cream happy hour are at Lark, 4pm.

• Get your heart rate up and explore the neighborhood with Ditmas Rides, meeting in front of the Cortelyou Library at 7pm.
• Watch the silent horror film version of “The Phantom of the Opera” at Our Lady of Refuge Church ($20), 7:30pm.
• Join neighbor Lola Star for her disco skate party at Lakeside in Prospect Park (buy tickets here), 8-10:30pm.
The Dirty Water Dogs perform their unique mix of rollicking zydeco, blues, cajun, funk and heartfelt originals at Bar Chord, 9pm.
Rahlou is at Sycamore, 10pm.
• See the dark and dirty comic storytelling of neighbor Clay McLeod Chapman (and more, including opera burlesque and modern dance) during the Late Show at the Triskelion Center’s Aldous Theater (118 N. 11th Street). Tickets are $10 and you can buy them here. 10:30pm.

Saturday, October 18

• And the Prospect Park South’s biennial yard sale will include more than 40 houses participate in the event that runs both Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine, from Coney Island Avenue to Buckingham Road and between Church Avenue and Beverley Road, 10am-4pm.
• Check out all the deals during the last Church Avenue sidewalk sales event of the year, 10am-6pm.
• Get ready for books, books and more books at the Cortelyou Library’s annual book sale, 11am-4pm.
• Lavender Blues Sing-Along at Lark Cafe, 10 & 11am.
• There’s Sahaja yoga meditation at the Cortelyou Library, 12:30-2pm.
Alegba and Friends play their Afro-Caribbean love at Bar Chord, 9pm.

Sunday, October 19

The Prospect Park South’s biennial yard sale will include more than 40 houses participate in the event that runs, rain or shine, from Coney Island Avenue to Buckingham Road and between Church Avenue and Beverley Road, 10am-4pm.
•Check out all the deals during the last Church Avenue sidewalk sales event of the year, 10am-6pm.
• Check out all the fresh veggies, fruit, and more at the Cortelyou greenmarket (Cortelyou between Argyle and Rugby), 8am-3pm.
Kids yoga with Jen at Lark Cafe, 11am.
• Join Compost for Brooklyn (Newkirk Avenue at E. 8th Street) for its Celebrate Urban Trees event, which will include a tree care workshop, composting activities for families and children, refreshments, live music byBaharat, and more, 1pm-3pm.
• Get ready for some literary fun at Lit at Lark, which will include readings by the seriously talented Andrew Lewis Conn, Anya Ulinich, and Amy Shearn, who will read from Frances Schutze’s posthumous debut, The Little Bastard, at Lark Café, 5pm.
Game Night is on at 773 Lounge, 7pm.
