This Saturday, March 9 at 10am, Temple Beth Emeth (83 Church Avenue) will host a presentation by Matthew Bogdanos, an Assistant District Attorney with the Manhattan DA’s office, a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, and the author of the 2005 book Thieves of Baghdad:

He will be giving a presentation on his experience leading the investigation into the looting of the Iraqi National Museum during the Iraqi War. The Iraqi National Museum is home to artifacts from ancient civilizations dating back to c. 7500 BCE. During the Iraq war, the Iraqi army used the museum as a military outpost, and then abandoned it, leaving the museum and its ancient treasures open to looting.
Matthew was serving in Iraq at the time, and based on his expertise in classic cultures, was asked to lead the team that would go on to investigate and recover a lion’s share of the stolen items.

The cost is $10 for non-members and $5 for members, which includes brunch. Copies of his book will also be available for purchase.
