The Sinkholes Of Westminster Road

If you’ve travelled down Westminster Road between Cortelyou and Dorchester recently, you may have asked yourself if the whole stretch of street is about to sink. That’s what we’ve been wondering anyway, as there are three growing cave-ins along that one block.

Each one is located next to a manhole cover, and they’ve all progressively gotten worse in the past few weeks.

The one closest to Dorchester is an open hole that we previously reported about in May. Thankfully it hasn’t gotten too much worse, but it definitely needs attention.

Further down Westminster just before Newkirk Ave, there’s another cave-in that’s a bit like a reverse speed-bump, stretching most of the way across the street.

And another hole that we noted last month, in the crosswalk on Ditmas Ave at Coney Island Ave, is still there.

We’ve reported all of these to 311 with their handy online form, but the more people who also file a report, perhaps the quicker our streets will get some attention, so feel free to do so — for these or any others that you notice in the area!
