The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club Opens Tonight
Get ready for the new old pastime that’s about to sweep Brooklyn, as The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club officially opens to the public at 514 Union Street tonight, Wednesday, February 19. Opening night runs from 6pm to midnight and is open to all (as opposed to just league members).
Curious about what the new space is all about? Here’s all you need to know:
• The social sport, which involves pushing a disc called a biscuit down a concrete court, is experiencing a bit of a revival. Like bowling, it’s not too hard for an amateur to dive in and play.
• It will cost about $40/hour to play.
• There are leagues, but they’ve been filling up quickly. Contact League@RoyalPalmsShuffle.com for more info.
• Want to book a court for a party? Want to book the whole place? You can do that.
• There’s a bay for food trucks, where a rotating group of vendors like the Red Hook Lobster Pound and the Kimchi Taco Truck will be serving up grub.
• They’ve got a well-stocked bar with fun tropical cocktails, to stick with the image of where the game’s been popular — namely, cruise ships and retirement villages in Florida.
• Not into shuffleboard? They’ll have bingo on Wednesday nights starting in March.
• Yes, for a very long time, this space used to be home to a casket company.
The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club is located at 514 Union Street, between 3rd Ave and Nevins St. They plan to be open Monday-Wednesday 6pm-midnight, Thursday-Friday 6pm-2am, Saturday 2pm-2am, and Sunday 2pm-midnight.
