Now Open: The Quarter Brooklyn Brings A Raw Bar, Smoked BBQ Lamb Tacos, And More To Fort Greene
Say hello to Fort Greene’s newest restaurant: The Quarter!
Located at 87 Lafayette Avenue — formerly home to Stonehome Wine Bar — the eatery opened on December 12, specializes in what co-owner Jason Avery describes as “new American global cuisine,” and is the second location for him and his partners.
The original West Village flagship (also named The Quarter) has done well since opening over three years ago and the quartet — from whence the restaurants got its name — decided it was time to expand. They chose Fort Greene for its bustling residential and business community, as well as their own familiarity with the area (Avery lives in Bed-Stuy, their family doctor nearby, and the co-owners are friends with the guys at The Smoke Joint).
“This was a little place we couldn’t turn over,” said Avery, whose partners include TJ Gulmez of Bensonhurst, Hakan Aktas, and a silent partner. “We’ve done some major changes from Stonehome. We have a beautiful raw bar in front, have expanded the backyard outdoor patio space to double its former size, and will have an enclosure for weather so people can enjoy it even if it is raining.”
As for the menu, the Brooklyn branch has the same signature dishes as the Manhattan location, but with an expanded menu of “lounge-y wine bar tapas” items such as an expanded charcuterie and cheese sections, as well as toast sections like Steakhouse (spicy burrata, tomato), Veggie, and an Anchovy topping, all meant to be shared with a glass of wine and integrated with your meal.
Also unique to our neighborhood’s spot is a raw oyster, clam and shrimp bar, which is available now inside, but in summer weather will also be offered in the sunken front patio area. Included are $1 Blue Points from Long Island, $2 Deep Cove from P.E.I. Canada, $2.50 Hood Canal from Washington State, little neck clams, and wild-caught shrimp.
Other signature dishes to try are the Miniature Tacos (Baja fish; smoked BBQ lamb with Mediterranean twist of feta, picked onions a few smoked paprika yogurt; and classics like chicken tinga with chicken chicharron skins), organic quinoa salad, and their raw kale salad.
The Quarter Brooklyn opened on December 12 with dinner service, kicked off brunch this past Sunday, and will be launching lunch shortly after the new year. Of course, there is also a full bar and an awesome cocktail list — try the Brooklyn Q, a basil-infused concoction featuring gin.
“Our mission is to become friendly, kid-friendly neighborhood restaurant,” said Avery. “In the West Village, we became a destination neighborhood restaurant where people don’t come once a year, but once a week. We want to embrace the Fort Greene community.”
Try them out when you get at chance, or even this holiday weekend: they’ll be open for brunch and dinner on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day from 11am-4pm, with longer hours on normal days.
