The Open Corner Reminder: GO Open Studios This Weekend!
Over the past month, The Open Corner has been featuring artists who are participating in the Brooklyn Museum’s GO open studios project in the hopes that you’ll support them and other local artists when the time comes. Well, the time has come. GO is happening this weekend, September 8 and 9!
In a nutshell, GO is a weekend (THIS WEEKEND) when artists across Brooklyn open their studios to the public for the chance to have their work shown at the Brooklyn Museum on December 1. Visitors (that’s you!) can nominate up to three artists from the list of studios they’ve visited. The ten artists with the most nominations will then receive visits from the Curators and two or more will be selected to have work shown in an exhibition at the museum.
HOWEVER…
In order to vote, you must:
a) Satisfy the requirements under question #3 here.
b) Register here. Registration is open until 11:59pm on September 10th.
c) Check in to at least five studios. How? You’ll receive a 5-digit number from each artist you visit, which you can use to check in via the GO Brooklyn Art app, text message, or on the GO website.
d) After you’ve checked in to five studios, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to nominate artists you visited.
Conveniently, we’ve already introduced you to five of the artists — Erica Levine, Maritsa Patrinos, Melissa Ling, Perri Nerri, and Adam Taye. All you have to do is visit their studios and check in. And there are certainly tons of other artists to check out as well. Take a look at this map and chart out a walk. Even easier is building an itinerary on the website or, for all you Macheads, using the GO app for iPhone.
If you’re out and not connected, no worries. There are info spots in each neighborhood, where you can get maps and speak with GO staff. Even better, the info spots in our area are Sycamore and Lark Cafe, so you can grab a drink before heading out (or back out).
