The Open Corner: July #1

The Open Corner: July #1

July’s Open Corner series will be on Tuesdays and we’re really excited about it. We’ve had a comic strip about Ditmas Park, but this’ll be our first series from a children’s book illustrator (although she uses her illustrating powers to better the lives of adults as well). Hope you enjoy, post reactions in the comments, and as Liz says, no further introduction necessary.

July Artist: Liz Starin

DITMAS PARKING

There’s a light at the end of my street. My boyfriend says it reminds him of a lighthouse: “When I see it, I know I’m almost in port.”

He drives a boat of a car, a baby-blue vintage Mercedes for veggie oil conversion.

You’d think you wouldn’t see too many of those, but one day on my way to the park, I discovered its near-twin on Argyle near Beverley. (Confidential to the owner: Please say hi!)

Big old cars make parking tricky.

If all else fails, he always finds a spot in the secret parking area, which is…well, I can’t tell you. But once we saw someone park a tractor-trailer there. It’s that good.

I used to live near a real lighthouse,

but I like coming home to my streetlight.
