The Old Stone House, Gentrification, Plane Crash: A Podcast About Park Slope History
How much do you know about the history of Park Slope? From when the area was simply known as “South Brooklyn,” to the Revolutionary War, to the 1960s and beyond, there’s a a lot to learn from a great new podcast you’ll want to save for your weekend listening.
The most recent episode of The Bowery Boys, a podcast that takes a fun look at New York City history, focuses on our neighborhood, and even if you’re familiar with our area’s background, you’ll probably learn a new tidbit — for instance, we didn’t know the reason 3rd Street is wider than neighboring streets was because Litchfield wanted a spacious entryway to his villa, located in what is now Prospect Park.
The hosts speak with Kim Maier from The Old Stone House; Julie Golia, Director of Public History at the Brooklyn Historical Society; and John Casson and Michael Cairl, both of Park Slope Civic Council, and they all cover quite a bit in the hour-long episode.
Definitely a fun one to listen to as you’re cooking dinner or hanging out this weekend — check it out here.
