The 2013 TriBeCa Film Festival opens today with “Mistaken for Strangers,” the documentary about The National directed by Tom Berninger, brother of frontman Matt. The festival site calls the film:

… a brilliant and unceremonious self-mockumentary with all of the ingredients for a good time and enough earnestness to come out on the other side with an admiration for those who have the gumption to create any kind of art. A cinematic juxtaposition that locks comedy and stoicism together on a tour bus, Mistaken for Strangers delivers an entertaining story of family, music and artistic aspiration.

Watch the trailer for “Mistaken for Strangers” below. We wonder how much of Ditmas Park we’ll see in the film?

The band will also be performing after the screening, for which no tickets are available. Rush tickets are still available, however, for screenings next week at Manhattan’s AMC Loews Village 7 (66 3rd Ave. and E 11th St.) and SVA’s Silas Theatre (333 W 23rd St. between 8th and 9th Aves.) See the film’s page on TFF’s site for more details.
