The Greenmarket Report: Potluck, Buy A Bag & Roots
Turnips at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket

This weekend at our local markets, say farewell to a longtime farmer, help feed hungry New Yorkers, and learn a thing or two about root vegetables.

The retirement of respected and beloved farmer Bill Maxwell is here — stop by the Maxwell Farm tent at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket on Saturday, November 23 to wish him well, and swing by at the end of the day for a little party in his honor.

And while you’re shopping at the Greenmarket, consider participating in the Buy a Bag program by purchasing an extra bag of produce and dropping it off at the City Harvest table from 9am-4pm. Your donation will help feed some of our city’s hungry men, women, and children.

Then on Sunday, November 24 at the Park Slope Farmers Market, to celebrate the tastes of autumn, there will be a free root vegetable tasting from 11am-1pm. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried rutabaga, celeriac, or salsify at least once!

The GAP Greenmarket runs Saturdays from 8am-4pm at Grand Army Plaza. The Park Slope Farmers Market runs Sundays from 10am-4pm along 4th Street at 5th Ave.
