The Greenmarket Report: Pie Baking 101 & Butternut Squash Soup
Fire up the oven and the stovetop and make some warm winter meals this week with inspiration from our local markets.
It’s all about pie at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket on Saturday, November 16. Neighborhood bakers Emily and Melissa Elsen will be at the information tent from 10am-1pm to answer any pie baking questions you’ve got, and they’ll have copies of their new Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Book available for purchase, so you can get an autograph to go along with it!
At the Park Slope Farmers Market on Sunday, November 17, consider picking up a butternut squash — Down to Earth, which runs the market, has a tasty recipe online for a spicy butternut squash soup that calls for two pounds of the hearty winter veg. Plus, remember that you can drop off old clothes and other textiles to be recycled by Green Tree Textile Recycling.
The GAP Greenmarket runs Saturdays from 8am-4pm at Grand Army Plaza. The Park Slope Farmers Market runs Sundays from 10am-4pm along 4th Street at 5th Ave.
