The Flatbush Frolic Is This Sunday!
Get ready to chow down on food from local restaurants, dance to an eclectic mix of bands, get your craft on, and more: The Flatbush Development Corporation is holdings its 40th Annual Flatbush Frolic street festival this Sunday, September 20, from 11am to 6pm. Stretching along Cortelyou Road from Ocean Avenue to Coney Island Avenue, this year’s Frolic will include:
- Families with young kids can check out the “Just For Kids” area at the Tot Lot Playground, hosted by Midwood Martial Arts & Family Fitness Center and FDC’s After School Programs. There will be clowns, sing alongs, crafts and more.
- Cortelyou Road Radio will be running live at the Frolic Main Stage, and performances include Chevy Lopez, Laolu Senbanjo and the Afromysterics, ThNk, Norihiro Kikuta Trio, Bombay Rickey, and Blue Lightning. As well as dance performances by Latin Fever On2, Alden Moves and Cynthia King Dance Studio.
- A collaborative Cortelyou Wine & Beer Garden from The Farm on Adderley and Sycamore.
- A pizza eating contest at San Remo.
- An opportunity to take on the P.S. 139 chess ninjas – if you dare.
- The FDNY’s Mobile Fire Safety Experience – otherwise known as its “smoke house” trailer.
- Tons of local businesses coming out to share their food, drinks, talents, and more. Design some street art with Brooklyn Industries, or work on an art mural with the Flatbush Food Co-op. Enjoy food and drinks from The Farm on Adderley,Flatbush Food Co-op, Connecticut Muffin, Purple Yam, Ox Cart, Lea, Jr. Bella’s Pizza & Pasta, Mimi’s Hummus, Bashi Channel, Hartwell Vegetarian, R&R Meat Market, and Natural Frontier Market. Strum a vintage guitar at Bar Chord, make check your eyesight with Grace Eyecare, and more.
- The Frolic will kickoff at 11:30am with a costume and banner parade starting on the corner of Cortelyou and Stratford roads. Awards will be distributed in three categories, Most Creative Banner, Best Costume and Most Colorful. All children who participate will receive a frozen treat provided by Cortelyou Market By Key Food. A banner making station will be located in front of Brooklyn ARTery (1021 Cortelyou Road) starting at 10:45am.
Traffic (including buses) will be rerouted away from Cortelyou for the event, so if you’re not sticking around, be sure to consider your route ahead of time.
