The Fat Beagle Team Is Officially Coming To Church Ave.

Remember last month when we told you about The Fat Beagle‘s Kickstarter campaign, and everyone was so excited, and they got a warm welcome at the Church Ave. Street Fair, and then the Kickstarter campaign was cancelled? We thought the dream of cornmeal-crusted fried green tomatoes on Church was gone forever–but it turns out it was just a hiccup. Ashley Weavil, one half of The Fat Beagle team, says:

We have indeed signed the lease, so we are going to officially start moving forward. Unfortunately, we cancelled our Kickstarter campaign at the last minute because the deal was off the table. So, we lost all the contributions, which was a huge blow.
Of course, as soon as we cancelled Kickstarter, the deal went through. As such, we are offering the same great gift certificates/pledges of support via our website for anyone who contributed before and had the money returned.
That being said, we hope to begin construction in early June.

The lease Ashley refers to is on the former Palmeras Restaurant space (1021 Church Ave. between E 10th and E 11th)–and although they may end up changing the name from The Fat Beagle, we still can’t wait to try the Weavils’ signature fare.
