The F Train Blues: Daily News Writer & Neighbor Reuven Blau Describes His Horrendous Commute
Ah, the F train.
Most among us understand the pain of hopping on a line that’s one of the slowest in the city, where chaos routinely breaks out, and which makes neighbors wish they had an F train voodoo doll — and an unlimited supply of pins.
And it looks like Kensington resident and Daily News writer Reuven Blau is as fed up with it as everyone else. In an opinion piece published in the Daily News, Reuven tells us something we can all understand: “I dread my subway commute.”
Reuven goes on to say:
Before leaving my Kensington, Brooklyn, apartment, I always check my email to see if the MTA sent out any warnings. Increasingly, I’m not sure why I bother; the messages are rarely accurate and typically pop up after I’m already stuck waiting on a packed platform or crammed train.
We can’t tell you how many times neighbors have told us how fed up with the F train they are, and Reuven described a situation we can all identify with, writing that what the MTA called “residual delays” on Monday morning translated to a crowd of commuters waiting for what felt like forever at the 18th Avenue subway station.

Eventually, when the subway does show up, Reuven said it’s teeming with people.
“I’ve been taking the F for the past 13 years,” Reuven wrote. “I can’t remember it ever being this packed, especially during the evening and morning commutes.”
