Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

This weekend, like last weekend, brought violence to the nabe. Police found a 63-year-old man stabbed to death in front of the Ingersoll Houses early Saturday morning, The New York Daily News reported. At 1:34 a.m., officers found the man in front of 24 Monument Walk with stab wounds on his torso. EMS immediately took the man to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Stay with The Nabe for updates on this crime and the community’s reaction.

How did you spend your weekend, locals? Some of you stayed close to home and enjoyed beautiful views from your Clinton Hill rooftops. What does the view look like from your rooftop? Submit your photos to The Nabe’s Flickr group.

If you live on or near Myrtle Avenue, consider attending a community meeting tonight to discuss recent crime, safety and quality-of-life concerns in the area. The Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, Myrtle Avenue Merchants and the Ryerson Street Block Association will sponsor the event, which will be held at SoCo Restaurant, 509 Myrtle Avenue at 7 p.m. While there, you can raise your concerns about the stray bullet that took the life of one man as he left the nearby Fork Cafe, as well as other local safety issues.
  • Wednesday offers another opportunity to get informed about community issues. Attend Community Board 2′s June meeting, which will be held at Pratt Institute’s Higgins Hall Auditorium – 61 Saint James Place at Lafayette Avenue, at 6 p.m.
  • Registration opens today for the Fort Greene Park Summer Youth Workshops, a program that invites young writers ages 7 to 17 to meet in Fort Greene Park and write together in a supportive environment. The program runs for the next six Saturdays, beginning on July 13. At the end of the summer, the emerging writers will have the opportunity to present their work at the New York Writers Coalition‘s ninth Annual Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival. Established writers will also be present at the event; in past years, Amiri Baraka, Jennifer Egan, Jhumpa Lahiri, Rick Moody, Gloria Naylor, Sapphire, Sonia Sanchez and Colson Whitehead were in attendance, to name a few. To register, call Call Rose Gorman at (718) 398-2883 x301.
