Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

The Fourth of July is upon us and the sun is shining bright. Whether you’re barbecuing for friends and family or just prepping some food for yourself, we’re wondering where you find the best barbecue fare in the nabe. What local shop do you swear by, locals?

And if you have a dynamite recipe that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser, don’t hesitate to share it with us in the comments.

  • Did you know that Brooklyn has its own Independence Day parade? The 108th patriotic procession happens at noon in Dyker Heights on 13th Avenue between 71st and 86th Streets. Expect an old-fashioned affair, completed with fire trucks, a couple of floats, antique cars and marching bands.
  • Today also marks the first day of the 42nd annual International African Arts Festival at Commodore Barry Park. Experience the vibrant culture of Brooklyn in this weekend festival, complete with music and dance performances, spoken word events, fashion shows and an arts and crafts market. If you’re looking for something to eat, you’ll find soul food, Caribbean specialties, Latin dishes and vegetarian plates. To be part of the fun, head to Commodore Barry Park, on Navy Street between Park and Flushing Avenues, July 4 thru Sunday July 7, between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., rain or shine.
  • Many of us will end the day huddled around the television to see the 37th Annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks, but some of you will gather on rooftops to see the display. If you happen to see some spectacular explosions and take a photo or two, don’t forget to keep us in mind and post your pics to The Nabe’s Flickr group.
