Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Last week Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership kicked off the 2013 school year with the first of three back-to-school mixers exclusively for teachers and their staff at Dee & Ricky’s. Tomorrow the organization is back with the second installment at Cielo Bar between 4 and 7 p.m. Just head to 474 Myrtle Avenue between Washington Avenue and Hall Street for $4 draft beers and $6 cocktails.

Here’s a few more local events to help you get out and meet more neighbors:

  • Emmanuel Baptist Church will host a public policy forum to discuss “Civil Rights Law in the Age of Obama” tonight. If you would like to learn about the state of civil rights from Hon. Jacqueline A. Berrien, Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, arrive at 279 Lafayette Avenue by 7 p.m.
  • Want to learn more about your health insurance and how to make the most of it? The Cumberland Diagnostic & Treatment Center at 100 North Portland Avenue will hold a “Health Insurance 101 Workshop” to teach you all about Medicare, assistance for uninsured and changes resulting from the Affordable Care Act. Call (212) 788-3450 to register for the workshop, happening on Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The City Parks Foundation, a non-profit organization that offers park programs across all five boroughs, announced its fall 2013 season of senior fitness classes in Brooklyn, including six weeks of free yoga in South Oxford Park. Register now for a spot in the hour-long fitness programs, which begin 11 a.m. on Sept. 27 at Atlantic Commons in South Oxford Park, between South Oxford Street and Cumberland Street.
