The Day: FAB Fun, a Shawarma Sculpture and an Apple Recipe
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
It’s another beautiful day in the nabe and the wonderful weather has us gazing out our windows, instead of at our open computers. We’re going to walk around the ‘hood during lunch to snap some photos, so if you see one of our reporters, be sure to say hello. And if you happen to take some awesome shots while you’re out, be sure to share them in our Flickr photo group.
- If you’re looking for more ways to enjoy the dry weather, then don’t miss the Fulton Area Business Alliance (FAB) events scheduled at the Putnam Triangle Plaza this month. As always, FAB is holding fitness classes on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., deejay dance parties on Fridays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and double dutch aerobic on Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Additionally, FAB is welcoming the Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble for a performance at the plaza on Sept. 8 beginning at 2:30 p.m.
- Another thing to get out and see is a new sculpture called “Ona” that was installed outside the Barclays Center last week. The six-ton, 19-foot-tall, cast-bronze sculpture has look of everything from a stalactite, a rock tornado, or (our favorite) a mass of roasted meat that people shave for a gyro or shawarma, according to the Atlantic Yards Report. What do you think the new piece of art resembles, locals? Let us know in the comments.
- Apple harvesting season is just around the corner and that means we’ll soon see bountiful bushels of them at the Fort Greene Park Greenmarket. But what can you do with them other than bake a pie? The Greene Hill Food Co-op has a simple and delicious Apple Cinnamon and Almond Butter sandwich recipe to help you. How do use your fall harvest? Share your recipes with us by emailing them to TheNabe@TheNabe.me.
