The fall foliage in the nabe may be beautiful, but it's getting cold out there. Consider donating any spare winter coats, hats or scarves to Zion Baptist Church's coat drive. (Photo by Oswaldo Cabrera)

Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Bill de Blasio has been elected the new mayor of New York City, after defeating Joe Lhota by a landslide, the New York Daily News reported. District 35’s own City Council Member Letitia James, who won the race against state Sen. Daniel Squadron, will assume the city’s public advocate seat, according to the Associated Press. What are your thoughts on these and other city election results, locals?

  • Ken Thompson, elected the new Brooklyn district attorney, was spotted voting yesterday in Clinton Hill, his home neighborhood, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported. He returned to the nabe last night as the results rolled in, Politicker reported. “As part of Brooklyn’s great future we must ensure that no man or woman is convicted wrongfully,” he said during his victory speech. “We must also make sure that we free all the innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted.” As he delivered his speech, Thompson was flanked by his supporters, including Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the website reported.
  • A former seminary-turned-duplex on Washington Avenue near Atlantic Avenue is now on the market for $849,000, Curbed reported. The previous home of Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, 555 Washington Avenue features a private garden and an open “recreation room” with terrazzo flooring. The building also has arched ceilings, small round windows, pillars, and original moldings, according to the article.
  • It’s starting to get cold outside, and one local church wants to help those who don’t have a winter coat. Zion Baptist Church on Washington Avenue near Fulton Street is holding a coat drive on Nov. 9 and 16. New and lightly used coats, hats, scarves and gloves for men, women and children will be accepted. Call (718) 622-9161 for more information.
