If you’re beginning your Thanksgiving travel tomorrow, be careful on the roads. The National Weather Service predicts heavy rain with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning and temperatures in the upper 50s. Although you won’t have to worry about rain on Thanksgiving, be sure to bundle up: Temperatures are only expected to reach the mid-30s.

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission recently signed on to a plan for the NYPD’s 88th Precinct station house to be landmarked – an idea that advocates have pushed since 2006 – DNAinfo reported. Yet Community Board 2‘s Executive Committee said the building only has potential for landmark preservation if the NYPD moves out. The NYPD had been looking to expand its cramped facilities on Classon Avenue between Lafayette and DeKalb Avenues, and landmarking would rule out expansion, according to the article. The Landmarks Preservation Commission will make a decision on the proposal in mid-December, the website reported.
If you’re in the nabe this weekend, stop by Long Island University Brooklyn‘s Steinberg Wellness Center – 161 Ashland Place – on Friday and Saturday for the 11th Annual Turkey Classic, a series of basketball games. Tip-off is on Friday, with the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds versus McNeese State University at 2 p.m., and Southern Utah University vs. Georgia Institute of Technology at 4:30 p.m. The winners of Friday’s games will compete on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., and the losers will play at 2 p.m. A limited number of complimentary tickets are available. One of the best ways to spend Small Business Saturday – always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving – is to visit your favorite shops and restaurants in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. If you shop at one of the Fulton Area Businesses (FAB) Alliance small businesses, you are encouraged to snap a photo and post it on FAB Fulton’s Facebook page. Also as part of Small Business Saturday, Move With Grace, the first yoga studio in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, will launch a White Noise Holiday Pop-Up, part of its fundraising project to expand its studio for more classes and music rehearsal space. Move With Grace will collaborate with Fort Greene resident Tamiko White of White Noise Showroom for the pop-up, which will feature a mix of women and men’s apparel, accessories, beauty, home décor and holiday gift items. The pop-up will continue on Dec. 7, 14 and 21.
