The Daily Show Takes On Crimea, Brighton Beach & Brooklyn Banya
Neighbors waiting for our hyperlocal coverage of the situation in Crimea, your day has come. Earlier this week, The Daily Show handled the sensitive topic of the peninsula’s annexation with their usual blend of satire and slapstick, and we were surprised to see our own Brooklyn Banya (602 Coney Island Avenue between Lewis Place and Matthews Court) featured.
The Empire Takes Back: It Could Happen Here follows correspondent Samantha Bee through a paranoid conversation with former White House foreign policy advisor Andrew Weiss, to the heavily-Russian Brighton Beach, and finally to the longstanding bath house on our local stretch of Coney Island Avenue.
As with, we’d guess, most bath house videos, this one isn’t exactly what you’d consider safe for work, but you probably shouldn’t be reading this post or watching Daily Show clips at work anyway. Then again, it is Friday.
In a way, we wish Putin would go ahead and try taking over the Banya–see how that goes with a Groupon on his phone.
