The Church Avenue Holiday Gift Guide

Last minute gifts can be very, very interesting. If you’re still buying gifts for your loved ones (or for yourself), check out our Cortelyou and Coney Island Avenue gift guides. Today, we have some big toys for young and old from Church Avenue.

• Let’s begin with something different. For the big kids who want two wheelers, Prospect Power Sports (457 Coney Island Avenue) has this pre-owned Suzuki GSXR 750 for $6500. The bike has clocked 6,000 miles and, according to the salespeople, hasn’t seen a drop of rain in all that time. It runs at about 33 miles per gallon in the city and can reach 40 when cruising. Maybe this isn’t the type of present you throw a bow on and place under the tree but if you’re looking for a bike, Prospect Power Sports has a diverse inventory where you can start looking.

• The T-Mobile store at 115 Church Avenue has a holiday sale going on right now, so if you’re in the market for a phone (with or without a contract), consider stopping by. In the peripheral department, this $49 Moga can make a good gift if you know someone who plays a ton of games on their phone. The device is designed to bring a console experience to the phone, an idea that may work well with some of the more complicated games ported over from consoles or computer.

Bobby’s Department Store at 1601 Church Avenue has awful movies at awfully low prices. Bad horror movies and tacky fantasy films have lots and lots of fans. If you know a B movie aficionado, you’re going to want to consider Bobby’s if only for the prices. DVDs start at $2 (for Poltergeist, probably the best movie of the bunch!) and most are around $5. Get popcorn and a blanket and enjoy the arts and crafts special effects.

Bobby’s Department Store strikes again! At their other location (across the street at 1628 Church Avenue), they’ve got stacks and stacks of toys. But what caught the eyes and fingers of many customers was this keyboard going for $35. That’s a nice price to get your kid (or you!) some keys to fiddle around with. If she likes it, fantastic. If she doesn’t, the purchase didn’t really ruin the college fund.

Gifts on Parade (1814 Church Avenue) has a classic gift that lots of kids will love: model trains. They’ve got several types but none will break the wallet. Prices range from $16 to $29 for the biggest train with a half dozen cars.

Wheated’s fundraiser is still going on! They’re at $3,200 of a $10,000 goal. You can contribute and help them while guaranteeing yourself some great pizza and, if you donate enough, your name on an oven or plaque within the store.

What else do you want to see under your tree from Church Avenue?
