The 36th Annual Flatbush Frolic

The 36th annual Flatbush Frolic street fair is coming up on Sunday, September 16 on Cortelyou Road between Ocean and Coney Island Avenues.

Presented by the Flatbush Development Corporation, the event has food, children’s rides, merchandise, arts and crafts, vendors, music, and more. Here’s a run down of what’s happening on Cortelyou in just two weeks.

Events:

• 1st Cortelyou Road Barber Shop Buzz Off sponsored by Jennifer’s Beauty World. Junior’s Barbershop, Brooklyn Style and J Boogie “go head to head creating the perfect Mohawk, High Top Fade and going all out in the Freestyle.”

• San Remo will host a Pizza Eating Contest.

• Grace Eye Care will be collecting used eyeglasses on behalf of Glasses for Haiti.

• Midwood Martial Arts hosts JUST FOR KIDS program in the Tot Lot playground on the corner of Argyle Road: African mask making with Art House and Infant & Toddler CPR/1st Aid demonstrations by Baby Be Safe.

• North Shore Animal League will partner with a local shelter and be present with pets available for adoption.

• FDNY will bring the Mobile Fire Safety Experience or “Smoke House” trailer. Children and adults have a chance to enter the Smoke House which is filled with artificial smoke and practice fire evacuation techniques.

• Ditmas Park 4 Haiti, is sponsoring an ART WALK in local restaurants, bars and stores to raise money for Fonkoze, a microfinance organization in Haiti.

• Sustainable Flatbush will be showing their projects and work on mobilizing, educating and advocating for sustainable living here in our Flatbush Community. Come learn about their different sustainablity initiatives!

• Children’s events include: gymnastic, karate and kid’s yoga classes, hula hoop contests (adults and kids), an interactive performance with Musical Explorers.

I’ll be winning the hula hoop contest with ease and then adopting nine puppies to celebrate. What are you looking forward to?
