A friend of the Kenny Chen, the 17-year-old who was stabbed to death in Bath Beach in 2013, testified in a Brooklyn courtroom Monday that his pal had just been trying to keep the peace before he died.

Danny Wei, 20, said at the trial of alleged killer Peter Sedeno that he had been on his way home from work and had plans to meet with Chen on June 9, 2013, when he overheard three men, one African American and two Hispanic, making fun of him and taunting him with slurs, reports the Daily News:

A “frustrated” and “upset” Wei followed the men to the Bay Parkway D-train subway station repeatedly asking if they were addressing the slurs to him.
They ignored Wei and allegedly continued offending him, he testified on Monday in Brooklyn Supreme Court.

Wei told prosecutors that he had wanted to fight the men, but Chen and another friend showed up and persuaded him not to. Wei said the youths argued about it for almost an hour and eventually split up in the early morning hours.

Chen was on 26th Avenue and Benson Avenue, just blocks from his home, when he was allegedly slashed by a 17-year-old Sedeno. Witnesses told police that they saw four men running from the location.

Wei did not identify Sedeno as one of the alleged racists or the stabber in court.
