Chopped host and Clinton Hill resident Ted Allen spoke to The New York Post this week about moving from Chelsea to Brooklyn, what he eats while traveling, and perhaps most importantly, his favorite restaurants near home.

“We ended up finding a brownstone we could swing,” Allen says of his and husband Barry Rice’s 2007 relocation to from Manhattan to Clinton Hill. “Previously, we had a condo in Chelsea. It was a nice place. But there was no dirt to stick plants into…”

Allen continues to name a few of his top food picks nearby, including Umi Nom–“[T]hat’s sort of the stuff I gravitate towards,” Allen says, “a blend of Malaysian and Vietnamese and possibly Thai”–as well as Walter’s, Dino, and Lulu & Po.

This isn’t the first time Allen has repped our area’s spectacular food scene to the masses, though–he has also spoken about his love of Brooklyn Grange and Provisions to Edible Brooklyn, and sang the praises of Graziella’s arugula and parmesan pie on a 2013 episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate.
