Tasty Bagels Voted Hands Down Best Bagel Shop In Bensonhurst
We asked; you answered.
With 273 votes, Tasty Bagels (1705 86th Street), “home of the Big Wheel,” has been the selected as the hands down favorite bagel maker by Bensonhurst Bean readers. Nearly half of our readers (47 percent) voted for the 86th Street eatery in our highly scientific poll last week.
The bakery, owned by the the Geraldi family more than 30 years, peddles old-fashioned “kettle-cooked” bagels as well as an extensive hot buffet. Tasty’s signature “Big Wheels” — giant cold cut-filled bagels that produce 27 smaller sandwiches — are frequently used as a party staple.
Tasty also make its own version of those bastardized “rainbow-swirled” bagels that all the kids are eating these days.
Pulling in second in our survey was Dyker Park Bagels (713 86th Street), which raked in 132 votes, or 23 percent of poll takers, and Wild Bagels (1901 Stillwell Avenue) lagged a bit behind with 60 votes, or 10 percent.
A small caveat: Bagel Bazaar (2208 86th Street), which drew 43 votes, was added in a few hours late, which may have skewed the results. Bagels Plus (7501 New Utrecht Avenue) also fared nicely, with 48 votes. Ultimately, we sufficiently demonstrated that when it comes to old fashioned, real Brooklyn bagels, Bensonhurst puts Park Slope to shame.
