Suspected Mail Bomber Grew Up In Brooklyn. Was He Your Neighbor?

BROOKLYN. The Florida man suspected of sending over a dozen explosive devices to a media outlet (CNN) and Democrats across the country was born in Brooklyn.

56-year-old Cesar Sayoc was arrested this morning by the FBI. At a press conference today, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that:

“He has been charged today with five federal crimes, including interstate transportation of an explosive, illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents and certain other persons, threatening interstate communications, and assaulting current and former federal officers.

For these charges, the defendant faces up to 48* years in prison.”

Public records show he was born in Brooklyn on March 17, 1962, and left to Florida when he was a child. Both the NY Daily News and CBS confirm that he is originally from this borough, though neither say which neighborhood. Heavy.com says Sayok is from Bensonhurst, though we have not been able to confirm it.

AMNY reports that Sayoc’s grandmother was from Sheepshead Bay, though there’s no way of knowing if Sayoc, himself, was from there as well.
