SUNSET PARK – The NYPD announced last week that a 37-year-old Sunset Park man was arrested in connection to hammer attacks at two mosques earlier this month.
Police apprehended Muy Hu on Tuesday, November 21, after he scratched the side of a Toyota Camry parked near the intersection of 8th Avenue and 61st Street, the New York Daily News reports, nearby the United American Muslim Association of New York (Fatih Camii Mosque) that Hu vandalized on November 11, using a hammer to destroy the building’s front doorbell, door knob, and mailbox, according to police.
Approximately twenty minutes prior to the attack on the mosque, police say the suspect used a hammer to smash a video camera and multiple windows at the Beit El-Maqdis Islamic Center located at 6224 6th Avenue (between 62nd & 63rd Streets).
In the incident last week, the victim was inside of the vehicle that Hu reportedly scratched. One of Hu’s relatives also identified him after surveillance video was released of him vandalizing the mosques, according to the Daily News.
