Supermarket News: Fairway Reopened Today, Key Food Returning to Windsor Terrace
Fairway, the Red Hook supermarket that sustained major damage during Hurricane Sandy, celebrated its reopening today, officially welcoming in customers at 11am. The store will be open until 11pm tonight, and then starting tomorrow its daily hours will be 8am-10pm, with the cafe open 8am-8pm daily.
Over in Windsor Terrace, the community demanded its defunct Key Food remain a supermarket, and they managed to, in a way, get what they wanted. Last week, the drug store chain Walgreens presented its plans to split the space on Prospect Avenue with Key Food. It’s expected to be a full service grocery that includes a butcher and a bakery. Both the drug store and the supermarket should be open this summer.
Though neither of these supermarkets are in the neighborhood, last year when we asked neighbors where you do your grocery shopping, many of you said you rely on regular trips to Fairway, and several people said they liked the Key Food because of its easy parking. So what have all of you been doing in the months that both have been closed?
