Sunset Park Toddler’s Death Is Ruled A Homicide; No Arrests Made Yet

The heartbreak continues surrounding two-year-old Melody Pheng’s death this past Sunday, March 13, which has now been ruled a homicide by the city medical examiner.

Pheng was found “unresponsive” in her family’s bathtub in a home on 47th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and later died at Maimonides Hospital. her cause of death is listed as drowning.

Pheng’s father called 9-1-1 for his daughter and was reportedly found doing CPR on her when EMS technicians arrived; he told responding officers that the drowning was accidental. Investigators brought Pheng’s 4-year-old brother to be checked for signs of abuse, however, and reportedly found bruising on his neck.

The investigation is ongoing.
