Our area’s rich literary history will continue at 2pm on Saturday, August 23 with the 2014 Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival, to be held at the Prison Ship Martyr’s Monument.

This year’s lineup includes Master of Ceremonies (and Rolling Stone and Brooklyn Vegan writer-cum-WFMU DJ) Gaylord Fields as well as writers Sapphire (Push),  Danny Simmons, Jr. (I Dreamed My People Were Calling But I Couldn’t Find My Way Home), Angel Nafis (BlackGirl Mansion), Willie Perdomo (Postcards of El Barrio), and Five Quarterly co-founder Vanessa Gabb, as well as scribes ages six to 18 from the NY Writers Coalition‘s summer workshops.

Now in its 10th year, the festival–presented by NYWC, the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, Greenlight Bookstore, and Akashic Books–offers a chance for locals to experience moving fiction and poetry readings by seasoned vets and young authors alike. Following the Fort Greene Park event, neighbors are invited back to Greenlight (686 Fulton Street at South Portland Avenue) for a party with cake and wine. In case of rain, readings will be held on the stoop at BRIC House (647 Rockwell Place at Fulton Street).
