Subway Service Changes For New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day
There are a few changes to local subway lines to note for New Year’s Eve and Day this today and Wednesday:
New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31If you’re heading into Times Square or may be around the Barclays Center on New Year’s Eve (there’s a Billy Joel concert there), the MTA recommends you put money on your MetroCard in advance to avoid lines.
At Times Square, they advise you avoid the 42 St-Times Square subway complex, since you may not be allowed to exit onto the street.
The northbound 1 train platform at 50 St and both north- and southbound N/Q/R platforms at 49 St will be closed from 7pm until after midnight. Riders are urged to exit at stations at 57 St or 59 St- Columbus Circle instead and walk to Times Square.
Following the celebration, trains on lines in and around Times Square will run every 8 to 12 minutes until approximately 3am. The 42nd Street shuttle will operate all night.
New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1New York City subways and buses and the Staten Island railway will operate on a Sunday schedule (which means no B train), with longer waits on some bus routes.
These schedules sometimes change, so check mta.info for the latest information.
