A stop-work order has been issued at the construction site where a new seven-story building is set to go up.

Though the document affixed to the construction fencing at 236 17th Street, on the corner of 5th Avenue, is for a full stop-work order, it is dated May 11, and according to the Department of Buildings, on May 12 that was changed to a partial stop-work order.

The DOB notes that work was halted due to potential undermining of a building next to the lot, stating that work has been done “contrary to plans” and without “monitoring of [the] adjacent structure.”

Neighbor Dale, who sent in these photos, said that it looked like they were doing a bit of digging in the dirt as of this morning, which may be okay based on the partial stop-work order — that, and the order posted, notes that “soil removal and housekeeping” are currently the only actions allowed at the site.

Renderings of the future building were revealed about a month ago, when construction began at the former Aaron’s parking lot. Apparently, as illustrated in the top photo with the defaced rendering, neighbors may not be too keen on the new development.

Of course, it’s just one of many headed for the area. On this same block, it looks like Eagle Provisions, which is set to close soon, will also become an apartment building, while another developer has plans to add 7,500-square-feet of apartments to the old Frost building on 5th at 19th Street.
