Starbucks Will Join Existing Coffee Hubs On Myrtle Avenue
The rumors are true: Starbucks is coming to Fort Greene/Clinton Hill.
The Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership announced the international chain’s impending arrival today on their blog, noting that it would fill the vacant space at 394 Myrtle Avenue, between Vanderbilt and Clermont Avenues — former home to Home & U discount store.
An opening date has not been set and Starbucks HQ has not even actually confirmed their interest in the space, but MABP notes that they’ve “received confirmations from several parties.”
Starbucks’ arrival is sure to annoy some residents who already have their favorite local shops or simply prefer small businesses.
This may be Starbucks’s first foray into our neighborhoods — the closest branches are at MetroTech, Atlantic Terminal and Barclays Center — but as residents know, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill have not been lacking for amazing coffee, tea and pastries from beloved small businesses run by local merchants.
MABP lists seven such businesses: Brewklyn Grind, Jill Lindsey, Pecks, Pillow Cafe, Pushkin Creperie and Bakery, Red Lantern Bicycles and Cafe, and The Joint.
There are also numerous more options on DeKalb, Lafayette, Fulton, Putnam and, frankly, every corner. Who could forget Baba Cool, La Bagel Delight, Connecticut Muffin, Outpost Lounge, Castro’s, The Greene Grape, and so, so many other local favorites? We certainly can’t.
