Spring Break Activities
Are you sticking around the ‘hood for Spring Break? Plan an adventure for each day of Mommy/Daddy Camp using our list of activities scheduled in the neighborhood and ones easily accessible via the Q train. You could spend every day exploring Prospect Park. The carousel is open all week. Both the Audubon Center and Lefferts Historical House have free afternoon classes. Zoo animals are active as the weather isn’t oppressively hot and sticky. Enjoy!
In the Neighborhood:
Prospect Park
Audubon Center—Blooming Naturalists meet each weekday. 1-4pm. Free.
Carousel—Open 12-5pm every day of the break. (Otherwise, Thursday to Sunday until summer.) $2 per ride.
Kensington Stables—Take a trail ride. $34 and up.
Lefferts Historic House—Spring Sprouts meet each weekday, 1-4pm. Free.
Nature Trails—Read about the trails then hike through the park. Free.
Tennis—Rent a court, $36 and up.
Zoo—Daily sea lion feedings! Open Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm, weekends 10am to 5:30pm. Adults $8, children 3-12 $5, seniors (65+) $6, children under 3 are free.
Local Museums
Brooklyn Museum of Art—Check out the Keith Haring exhibit. Closed Monday and Tuesday. 11am to 6pm Wednesday to Sunday. Kids free, adults $12 suggested.
Brooklyn Children’s Museum—Extended hours: 9:30 am to 5pm. Closed Mondays. Lots of spring break events! $7.50 ages 1 and up.
Brooklyn Academy of Music—Free movies for spring break on Thursday, and more.
Brooklyn Botanical Garden
Spring Break Discovery—Explore the garden to find signs of spring. April 10-13. Drop in. 11am to 1pm. Kids free, adults $10.
Other
Midwood Martial Arts—has a full calendar. Thai Chi won’t meet on Wednesday, but all other events on the calendar are a go.
Cortelyou Library—Babies & Books on Tuesday. Toddler Time on Wednesday. And a number of programs for tweens and teens. Free.
On the Q train, Manhattan Bound
Transit Museum—“Sharin’ A Ride” shows Tuesday through Friday at 11am and 1:30pm. Saturday and Sunday shows are 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Children 2-17 $5, adults $7.
Brooklyn Boulders—Kids classes weekdays 4-6pm. Weekend Family Hours 8-11am, gym dedicated to families. $18 kids, $22 adults. Day pass.
Central Park Zoo—Visit the other borough. It’s just one train. $13 kids, $18 adults.
On the Q, Coney Island Bound
New York Aquarium—Renovations have opened up quite a bit. Buy tickets online, save 10%.
Coney Island—Visit Luna Park or Deno’s Wonder Wheel. Parks open daily through April 15.
