Spend $1 Million on Community Improvements

Spend $1 Million on Community Improvements
Councilman Brad Lander speaking, Manhattan Boro Pres. Scott Stringer (L) Congressman Jerrold Nadler (R).

Are you ready to spend $1 Million? Learn about proposed community improvement ideas then make your voice heard by voting.

Thursday, March 21st, 6:30 to 8:30, Park Slope Library (431 6th Ave at 9th St)–delegates will present proposed ideas to the community. Three proposals that affect Kensington include:

Church Avenue Pedestrian Safety, $300,000: The goals for this project include shortening the distance one walks when crossing Church Ave, calm and improve traffic flow, and enhance aesthetics. This will be done by replacing and reconstructing sidewalks, installing pedestrian ramps, and adding trees and curb extensions.

Safety Cameras, $50,000/camera: Councilmember Brad Lander’s office is currently taking suggestions for safety camera locations. At the expo, neighbors will have the opportunity to pinpoint specific locations they think cameras should be installed. (I recommend one on the Ft. Hamilton exit at the Ft. Hamilton F train station.)

Ocean Parkway Pedestrian Safety, $300,000: This is a proposal to install curb extensions, or neckdowns, at Ditmas Ave and 18 Ave on the corners of E7th and E8th Streets. This corner is highly trafficked by school-aged children.  Over the last 5 years, there have been a combined total of 41 accidents on these corners.
