South Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: October 30-November 2

Looking for something to do this weekend? With everything from spirited Halloween parties and The Walking Dead to paper quilting at Lefferts House, you won’t have to go far for fun. Here are some of our favorite events from around the neighborhood through Sunday:

Weird Wednesdays (On Thursdays)
When: Thursday, October 30, 7:30pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Ready to explore some musical weirdness with Terry Dame? This month is weird Spaniard month. Terry Dame teams up with visual artist Federico Muelas to present Sonic Graphite 2B (SG2B). An interactive sound and visual piece in which the artists create sound compositions by drawing with conductive 2B graphite bars.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation

Costumes, Scary Movies, and Cowboys & Frenchmen
When: Thursday, October 30, 9pm
Where: Freddy’s, 627 5th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets
What: Why wait until Friday for Halloween fun? Pop on your best costume and head to Freddy’s for a performance by Cowboys & Frenchman, accompanied by scary movies from Donald O’Finn.
How much: Free.

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Toning
When: Friday, October 31, 12pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shape up your core with a free cardio class in Prospect Park that will combine strength, balance, and toning exercises. No reservation is required, but it is recommended that you bring a workout mat.
How much: Free.

Coffee Bark
When: Saturday, November 1, 7am-9am
Where: Meadow beside the Picnic House in Prospect Park (Enter at PPW and 3rd Street)
What: It’s the first Saturday of the month, which can only mean one thing…Coffee Bark with FIDO. There will be treats for dogs (and their owners), as well as information on off-leash activities.
How much: Free.

History In Your Hands: Paper Quilting
When: Saturdays and Sundays in November, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Spend a cozy afternoon at Lefferts Historic House this month making your own paper quilt collage to add to their community patchwork quilt.
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Morning Bird Walk: Feathered Friends
When: Sunday, November 2, 8am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Spend a beautiful morning with our park’s fine feathered friends. This month’s walk, led by the Brooklyn Bird Club, will be on the lookout for early winter residents like Northern Shovelers, and ducks that spend the winter in the lake.
How much: Free.

The Walking Dead
When: Sunday, November 2, 9pm
Where: The Monro Pub, 481 5th Avenue
What: Wrap up Halloween weekend with a little Walking Dead at The Monro. Vinny and Nicole will have the sound on, and drink specials rocking the bar.
How much: No cover.
